Recorded in New York in 1960, Down Home captures the cool but increasingly muscular tenor of Zoot Sims in quartet company — Dave McKenna on piano, George Tucker on bass, and Dannie Richmond on drums. Seven of its eight tunes were well-worn standards by the time Zoot got to them, and the quartet swings through the program with easy vigor. Reissued on audiophile vinyl by Pure Pleasure.
