A Beginner's Mind is the collaborative debut album from Sufjan Stevens and Angelo De Augustine, fourteen songs loosely based on (mostly) popular films. The music is folksy, sweet and harmonically effervescent — Simon & Garfunkel with New Age flourishes — while remaining rooted in the melancholy folk idioms both songwriters are known for. By transforming old films into vital new songs, the pair invite us to see and hear ourselves from a fresh vantage point.
