180 Gram Vinyl, Analogue Productions, Cut by Kevin Gray
Tenor Madness is the recording that established Sonny Rollins as one of the premier tenor saxophonists in jazz. Recorded in 1956 with Miles Davis' rhythm section — pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones — it is the only recorded meeting of Rollins and John Coltrane, whose famous tenor duel on the title track is a benchmark of the era. Alongside the celebrated title cut, the album features the original "Paul's Pal" and inspired readings of "My Reverie" and "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World."
