Hitchhiker captures a complete solo session Neil Young recorded in a single night in 1976 with producer David Briggs, intended at the time as an album of its own. Many of the songs later surfaced in different forms on records like American Stars 'n Bars, Comes a Time and Rust Never Sleeps, while "Hawaii" and "Give Me Strength" appear here for the first time. The result is an intimate, unguarded snapshot of Young at the peak of his powers.
