A 60th anniversary reissue of John Lee Hooker's 1959 debut for Riverside Records, on which he set aside his usual amplified guitar to play acoustic. The result is a wonderfully varied set of deep Delta blues, moans, boogies, a field holler, and even a bit of hokum, some autobiographical and others reworkings of standards, all stamped with Hooker's hauntingly personal touch.
