Released in 2020, Shapeshifting is the 18th studio album from acclaimed instrumental guitarist Joe Satriani. Spanning a wide variety of styles, it is anchored by the single "Nineteen Eighty," a track that harks back to the era of his first band, the Squares. "In my mind, Eddie Van Halen crystalized that era," Satriani says of the late '70s and early '80s. "He kind of saved rock guitar."
