The full-length debut from Sacramento outlier Frank Lopes, better known as Hobo Johnson — a punked-up, folked-out blend of stream-of-conscious hip-hop poetry forged from backyard shows, frigid studio sessions and nights spent sleeping in a 1994 Toyota Corolla. With offbeat, janky production and feverish emotion, Lopes spins tales of suburban mythos and malaise. As he puts it, the record is "a collection of songs that reflect what's going on in my life at the moment through these elements of hip-hop, folk, and punk."
