Knitting Factory Records reissues Fela Kuti's Coffin for Head of State, previously only available as part of the Box Set series. Made up of a single extended composition split across two sides, it is among Fela's most courageous responses to the Nigerian army's 1977 destruction of his Kalakuta compound — an attack that led to the death of his mother, a veteran of Nigeria's independence struggle. The audio has been restored and remastered from Fela's original Nigerian recordings, with artwork meticulously recreated from the original.
