Of all the artists who recorded for the legendary Black Jazz label, keyboardist and composer Doug Carn was the most prolific. 1972's Spirit of the New Land, his second Black Jazz release, showcases his innovative approach of adding lyrics to jazz standards, with spellbinding vocals from his wife Jean Carn on Miles Davis' "Blue in Green" and Lee Morgan's "Search for the New Land," alongside spiritually charged originals. A stellar cast includes Charles Tolliver, George Harper, Garnett Brown, Earl McIntyre, and Alphonse Mouzon.
