Adele Sebastian was an African-American jazz flutist and singer, active from the early 1970s until her untimely death in 1983 at the age of 27. First issued in 1981, Desert Fairy Princess is her only solo album — a mostly acoustic, spiritually charged set that blends classic American vocal jazz with playful free passages, Latin rhythms and tribal African sounds. Fans of mid-'60s John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders and Alice Coltrane will find much to love in its rich, hypnotic grooves.
